New chapter for Rotherham's Library, Heritage and Arts Space

ROTHERHAM’s newest library is set to open this month after its move from Walker Place.

The new Library, Heritage and Arts Space in Riverside House will open its doors next Monday.

Library staff have moved around 51,000 books, 6,000 DVDs, 4,500 CDs and 40 public access PCs across town to the new library, which will be opened by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Shaun Wright.

The opening co-incides with St. George's Day, Shakespeare's birthday and World Book Night and will feature a full day of drop-in sessions and activities.

The new library will offer book, DVD and CD lending services, along with free access to the internet and there will also be an art gallery where local artists will be able to exhibit their work.

The first major exhibition scheduled will be the Rotherham Open Art competition which will run from June 23 until August 11, but in the mean time local heritage treasures will be on display.

Activities on Monday will include family Rhyme Time and book sharing advice from 3.30pm in the children's space.

For adults, there will be tours of the library space, the opportunity to discuss favourite reads and a variety of activities  to mark World Book Night from 5.30pm.

The opening hours for the Library, Heritage and Arts space remain the same as the Central Library. Monday 9am to 7pm; Tuesday 9am to 5:30pm; Wednesday 9am to 5:30pm; Thursday 9am to 7pm; Friday 9am to 5:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm.
