Lantern grant helps children put spotlight on problem areas
RotherFed is organising the December 20 lantern walk to raise awareness of arson attacks, fly-tipping and littering in the area.
Children made the lanterns thanks to £325 awarded through the scheme, run through the Rotherham Advertiser in association with the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings.

Hide AdProject manager Sarah Bingham said: “The purpose of the project is to raise awareness of Green Hill (Golf Hill, Banana Plantation) amongst the people of Parkgate and Rawmarsh and contribute to the prevention of arson attacks, fly-tipping and general littering in the area.
“Several arson attacks on Green Hill this summer have devastated the green space and concern amongst community members has been consistently mentioned during conversations with myself as community organiser for the area.
“By raising awareness of the arson attacks and fly-tipping at Green Hill, it is hoped that community members will become more involved in the prevention of these crimes, either through vigilance, police reporting or taking positive community action.”
The walk will take place between 6-7pm and those interested should meet at the William Street entrance to Green Hill (S62 6AZ). People can bring their own lanterns and children under 11 must be supervised by an adult.
