GALLERY: Sahara adventure in aid of SAFE@LAST

A GROUP of intrepid explorers spent a week trekking the Sahara in aid of SAFE@LAST.

The 27-strong team is expected to have raised more than £65,000 after crossing 100km of desert.

Among them was the current Miss Intercontinental England, Laura Gregory, who described it as a life-changing experience.

The model and dancer (26), from Todwick, said: “I have gained some great new friends and incredible memories and shown there’s much more to me than just a pretty face.

“Our guide was very surprised to have a beauty queen out in the desert.

“I’m glad I got the opportunity to show people my personality, determination, resilience, charitable nature and inner beauty.”

She added: “When we finished I felt immensely proud of all of our group for struggling through the heat and aches and pains.

“I felt grateful that we could finally get some rest but I also felt a little sad knowing all this group I have become so close to would be parting company when we returned to England.

“We became almost like a big family, looking out for each other, laughing together, crying together and I’m grateful to all of them for sharing that extraordinary experience with me.”
