Family and friends honour teen cancer victim by raising £200,000 for charity

MORE than 160 people supported a Pink Party in memory of a teenage bone cancer victim — taking the total raised in his memory past £200,000.

Family and friends of Alex Albiston, who died in 2010 aged 18, have now set their sights on the £250,000 milestone, with more fundraising events on the way.

Efforts in tribute to straight A student Alex have funded the work of the Bone Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) and the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).

Dad Tim (60) said: “We held our annual Pink Party event at Sitwell Park Golf Club on April 15 and over 160 people came along to dance the night away and celebrate Alex’s memory.

“The great news is that we raised over £3,600 for the BCRT on the evening through ticketing, raffle and a charity auction.

“We also passed a brilliant milestone on Saturday with the total raised for charity in Alex’s memory going past £200,000.

“After achieving the £100,000 target back in 2017, I had anticipated that the enthusiasm and momentum for fundraising would be lost but here we are adding another £100,000 on top of that.”

Tim, of Wickersley, added: “In the last 12 months alone, £14,000 has been raised with events and challenges such as Richard Dowell cycling the 500 miles of the north coast Highlands of Scotland, Dr Alexandra Phillips running the London Marathon, the Charlton household hosting their annual Hallowe’en House Night and myself cycling the hills of North Yorkshire with my old university friends for my 60th birthday.

“I had also thought that £200,000 would be our last target, but given the continued appetite of people to challenge themselves and keep Alex’s story alive, I am happy to report that we are now targeting that quarter of a million milestone.”

Among the future efforts will be Alex’s sisters Charlotte (29) and Megan (20) running their first Great North Run half marathon in September for the BCRT.
