Dinington charity wants gamers’ help

SAFE@LAST is appealing for help from gamers to win funding to boost its efforts in keeping children safe from harm.

GamesAid, which distributes cash to various kids’ charities, has backed the Dinnington-based young runaways cause for the past two years.

Now SAFE@LAST is calling for members of the UK Video Games Industry to vote for them to receive further funding this year.

The charity has been nominated by Gravity Recruitment and Games Jobs Direct, two Doncaster firms recruiting to the industry.

Gravity managing director James Squires said: “We have supported SAFE@LAST for several years and we’re delighted to be in a position to again nominate them to receive funding from GamesAid.

“It’s a small but fantastic charity making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young runaways in South Yorkshire and I know what a difference GamesAid funding has made to their work.”

Nominated charities have until noon on Monday (14) to secure as many votes as possible.

Anyone working in the UK games industry can sign up at www.gamesaid.org.

SAFE@LAST head of communications Clare Sherratt said: “We’re delighted to have been nominated for GamesAid funding and hope members will consider voting for us.

“The funding will ensure we can continue to provide one to one support to young people who run away from home.

“The support we offer helps to keep young people safe by providing someone to talk to and to help them address issues that lead them to run away.

“If you work in the games industry, or know somebody who does, please help us collect as many votes as we can.”
