Council wary of making mountain out of mole problem

COUNCILLORS seemed in the dark this week as to whether there was a mole control problem at an allotment site.

The issue to consider a £300 quote for mole control at the North Anston allotment site was on the agenda of the parish council’s monthly meeting held on Tuesday.

Cllr Jonathan Ireland said it was a waste of money killing the moles.

He said: “I’ve spoken to people on there and there are no problems with moles whatsoever.

“If you kill them another load of moles will come anyway, it’s a pointless waste of money.”

Cllr Stuart Thornton said: “Why can’t our workers go and put a trap down, capture the mole and release it in the woods?

“It’s not hard catching moles.”

Cllr Gordon Jarvis added: “They don’t eat vegetables, they are meat eaters, they only eat grubs.

“Whose idea was this, who’s been complaining about it?”

The clerk, Michael Gazur, replied that a member of the public had been into the council office.

But Cllr Ireland added: “From the people I’ve spoken to, there’s no problem.”

Chairman Cllr Clive Jepson  referred the issue to the allotments group.
