Community fund-raisers take on marathon challenge

A PAIR of well-known fund-raisers are gearing up to take part in a marathon challenge on Friday.

Mexborough’s Tommy Joyce and Dalton’s cycling Para-Olympian Dominic Hurley, will be pushing their strength and stamina to the limit outside the Mansion House in Doncaster.

Tommy will be running a marathon on a treadmill while Dominic will be riding an exercise bike to notch up the miles in this action-packed event.

Other cyclists include the Civic Mayor of Doncaster Cllr Eva Hughes and members of Dominic’s cycling club.

Cllr Hughes said: “Tommy and Dominic both excel in their respective fields and I would like to thank them for supporting this charity event for very worthy causes.

“Although I enjoy cycling, I can’t promise I’ll be able to keep up with their pace but as they say, it’s the taking part that counts and I’m keen to join in and do my best.”

The event will take place at 10am and will raise funds for the Civic Mayor’s chosen charities, the Aurora Centres at Mexborough and Doncaster, which provide support to cancer patients, and young people’s voluntary groups.
