Celebration marks progress of new Denaby youth centre

A CELEBRATION marked the latest milestone in the progress of a centre for young people.

A topping-out ceremony was held at the site of the new myplace building which will house a fitness suite, boxing club, music and dance facilities, counselling and health services.

The centre is part of a £5 million Big Lottery Fund project and is being built on the site of the former Tom Hill Youth Club on Wadworth Street in Denaby Main.

Conisbrough and Denaby councillor Chris Mills said: “I am delighted that this new facility has reached this important milestone.

“The building is really taking shape and once complete it will provide the young people in Conisbrough and Denaby with so much to do and enjoy.”

The ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the highest part of the building.

Wildgoose Construction workers have also completed the external brick, block and stone walls, the roof panels and roof tiling works are well advanced.

“This will be a wonderful asset and I encourage the local community to get behind the project and make it a real success.”

Young people have been involved in the initial planning and design work and making decisions on what services will be included.

They are now promoting the facilities and will also be expected to help run the services. This involvement is the main objective of the myplace project.

Luke Dickinson, of Denaby, added: “It's been great being involved in the project and we can’t wait until the centre opens.”

Businesses are being asked to support the facilities by providing business advice or sponsorship.
