Assisted suicide bill ditched despite Rotherham MP's support

SARAH Champion has spoken of her support for the assisted suicide bill, saying: “Everybody deserves a good death.”

The Rotherham MP (pictured) made her feelings known in Parliament but the proposal was dropped as it failed to pass its second reading.

Ms Champion, former boss of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “I know death. I understand death and I firmly believe that everybody deserves a good death.

“The bigger debate that we need to have is about ensuring that everybody in this country has access to 24/7 palliative care and more hospices that are better funded.

“In reality, most people do not have a good death.”

The bill would have enabled terminally-ill adults to be provided with medical assistance to end their own life.
