Otter takes opportunity to explore Rotherham town centre masterplan progress

AN OTTER was spotted at the River Don as work was carried out as part of the Rotherham town centre masterplan.

Studies are being carried out on the wall of the waterway in the area where Riverside Precinct was demolished last year.

The area will become a new gateway feature called Riverside Gardens, which RMBC says will use the riverside location to “create a fun landscape for play and interaction”.

The otter appears to have made an early start on exploring the area.

Rotherham Council tweeted: “It’s the new guy in town! An otter was spotted during recent river wall studies for the Riverside Gardens development as part of the town centre masterplan.

“It’s reassuring to know our river is clean enough for such a mix of ‘otterly’ beautiful wildlife.”
