Noise complaints over Wickersley pub's music festival

COUNCIL officials were called on to investigate after noise complaints were made about a pub’s two-day music festival.

Several people contacted Rotherham Borough Council to take issue with the loud music at the Masons Arms in Wickersley over the weekend.

Social media users said the event, headlined by hard-rocking Hell’s Addiction and The Black Hands, could be heard up to a mile away.

The pub's general manager, Tyrone Bentham said: “I would like to apologise to anyone who was disturbed by noise from our music festival over the weekend.

“Our aim is to create a friendly, well-run pub at the heart of the local community and we do make every effort to be as considerate as possible to our neighbours, even undertaking regular checks every hour during the festival to make sure the noise was under 90 decibels to comply with regulations.

“We also finished the event by 10pm on Saturday and 9pm on Sunday, out of consideration to our neighbours

“If any locals do have any concerns, they are more than welcome to come in and discuss them with me.”

Borough councillor Sue Ellis confirmed she had received several complaints and said it was important to strike a balance between allowing for the area to become more popular as a social hotspot and remembering it was a residential area.
