‘No comment’ re Tesco closures in Rotherham

The beleaguered business has said that many of the stores to go will be local convenience shops.

Tesco has also announced it is shelving plans for 49 new very large stores and axing its staff pension scheme for new employees.

The company has seen falling sales and its profits have been down.

Asked by the Advertiser whether Rotherham stores would be affected, a company spokesperson said that no list of closed stores has been issued yet.

The spokesperson said: “We will be talking to staff at the stores first.”
