Newspaper office open as normal after crash

STRUCTURAL engineers have deemed the Dearne Valley Weekender office safe after a car smashed into the building.

Police and firefighters were called to the office, in High Street, Mexborough, at around 4.10pm on Monday.

An unoccupied Ford Mondeo crashed into an annexe of the building and engineers were called to assess the safety of the building.

Jamie Ollivent, operations director for the Weekender’s parent company Regional Media Ltd, said: “The engineers had to come and check the building before we could move the car.

“Firefighters also checked to make sure no electrical cables were left unsafe and it has all been boarded up now.”

The office is open as usual from 9am until 5pm today (Tuesday).
