New sightings of missing dog Ollie

A DESPERATE dog owner is appealing for help in tracking down her pooch that went missing two months ago.

Beautiful beagle Ollie escaped from a garden on September 11 and there have been various sightings of him, but timid Ollie has proved hard to catch.

He was last sighted on Wednesday near the old town centre B&Q roundabout on Hope Street and last Monday  in the same area.

Previously he had been spotted in Manvers on Brookfields Way, Swinton’s Golden Smithies Lane near to a farm and the fields behind Dearne Valley College.

But now it seems the dog has moved nearer to the town centre.

Owner Lisa Roper (33), of Chapeltown, had only had Ollie five weeks before he went missing.

She said: “He was scared when he came to us but was gaining confidence, he’s a very timid dog.”

Ollie escaped from Lisa’s parent’s garden in Mexborough on Highwoods Road after jumping over a 4ft fence at around 3pm.

He was not wearing his collar.

“He’s been to their house a good few times, and my dad was home, but he was there one minute and gone the next,” she said.

Lisa has put missing posters up, leafleted houses, and set a Facebook page up called find Ollie Male Beagle Dog.

People have rung me at 5.30am to say they have seen him, but he’s just that scared he’s running off from everybody.

“I’ve been out looking for him every morning and night and there’s been a lot of volunteers walking around the areas at different times of the day.

“It does make me feel better that he’s been seen recently, but now he’s in more built up areas with a lot of traffic, it’s just terrifying.”

Lisa said those who had seen Ollie said he looked OK, and she had assumed he would have been scavenging on food in farmer’s fields.

She added it was a very stressful time, her home was “totally empty without him” and urged people to contact her if they see him instead of trying to approach the dog.

To report a sighting contact Lisa on 07843607875.
