New Netto store opening creates 20 jobs

SUPERMARKET chain Netto will open a new store in the Dearne Valley next week creating 20 new jobs.

The store will open its doors to the New Edlington branch on Thursday (January 14) at 8am and will be offering free food samples from the in store bakery, music, balloon modelling and a chance to meet Netto’s giant LEGO Scottie – the biggest LEGO dog in the world.

The new 12,000 sq ft store is located where the former Co-op store was on Edlington Lane.

A spokeswoman for Netto said all 20 staff members had been recruited locally, including the store manager, Chris Elsey, and deputy store manager, Alena Klimuk.

She added the team had come from a variety of different retail backgrounds, including former workers of the old Co-op.

The new store has an in-house bakery and fresh British meat and produce will also be delivered to the store every day.

Morten Moberg Nielsen, managing director at Netto UK, said: “We are excited to be opening our second store in Doncaster and to become part of the local community in New Edlington.

“We look forward to welcoming new customers and to bringing a taste of Scandinavia to the area.”

It is the 11th store to be launched in the UK since the first store opened its doors in Leeds in November 2014 as part of a trial in a joint venture between Sainsbury’s and Dansk Supermarked, Netto’s parent company.

The store is completely different that left the UK market in 2010, with a fresh design based on the latest Netto stores in Denmark.
