New-look Rawmarsh community hub opens doors

A GROWING community hub has reopened after a facelift to make the centre bigger and more welcoming.

Wentworth & Dearne MP John Healey cut the ribbon at the High Street Centre in Rawmarsh last Friday (17).

The expansion project has included a new lobby, extra offices and toilets plus alterations to create more storage space.

Now the centre is offering the newly-refurbished officers for hire as part of its long-term financial plan.

Mr Healey said: “I am blown away by the dynamism of the High Street Centre. It continues to reinvent itself, whilst maintaining its status as a vital community resource.

“The people of Rawmarsh should be proud to have such a thriving project at its heart. I would like to pay tribute to the people who make this all happen, the staff and the volunteers.

“And I hope the High Street Centre continues its good work well into the future.”

The centre — a charity since 2002 — is based at the methodist church on Rawmarsh High Street. It hosts dance, theatre, Weight Watchers, choral, leisure and kids’ groups.
