A COUPLE who were forced to use a ten foot ladder to climb in and out of their flat have been given a new home just in time for Christmas.

Nathan Bentley and Vicki Favell, of Kimberworth, thought that it was a dream come true when they were offered their first home together.

But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare when their front door came off its hinges. The lovebirds had to barricade themselves in and climb in and out through an upstairs window while they waited for repairs.

This week Christmas came early for Nathan and Vicki who have been rehoused thanks to a helping hand from The Rotherham Bond Guarantee Scheme Limited (Robond) and Rotherlets.

Vicki said: “We are so pleased to have got rid of the ladder and to be in a new home which is cleaner and much better.

“Now we can enjoy a normal life and not have to pass our groceries through the window from a ladder.

“The situation was causing us a lot of stress and we were arguing so we are grateful for the help to get us out.

“Especially as it’s nearly Christmas, we can get settled in now and hopefully have no more problems.”

A spokeswoman for Rotherlets said: “Robond referred these tenants to us, as they were keen to help them be rehoused.

“We found a suitable property at Kimberworth which we let them view, and which they really liked and applied for.

“We take tenants’ safety very seriously and we always ensure our houses are of a decent standard.”
