New figures confirm Rotherham shoppers are coming back

THE number of shoppers visiting Rotherham town centre has gone up for the tenth month running.

According to the latest Springboard National High Street Index, footfall to the town’s key shopping streets rose by 4.1% over the same period last year.

Diane Werhle, research director at Springboard, said: “In relation to other towns and cities across the UK, Rotherham’s figures are extremely positive.

“There are very few places that have seen consistent rises for the best part of a year.”

Springboard monitors footfall by counting movements in the town centre using black boxes which count the number of pedestrian movements each week.

The monitoring of Rotherham town centre began in 2003.

Springboard’s UK-wide figures, meanwhile, showed a 5.5 per cent year-on-year decrease in visitor numbers in other towns and cities.
