New attractions for Rotherham Show

ORGANISERS of this year’s Rotherham Show are looking to wow the public after announcing a host of new attractions for the 36th annual event.

Held in Clifton Park on September 12 and 13, the show — which attracts thousands of visitors — will host the Rother FM Music Festival for the first time.

The festival will see the historic bandstand host an array of musical talent from all genres including fabulous local talent, tribute acts and jazz artists.

Saturday kicks off with home-grown talent from local bands and continues into the afternoon with the Katy Perry tribute show and Take That 2.

On Sunday the bandstand, which once hosted Marc Bolan, will host live jazz and folk from the likes of Jez Lowe, Colin Yates Big Band and The Jives Aces, who reached the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent in 2012.

The Yorkshire’s Strongest Man competition set to test the strength and power of men from all over the county.

The novice competition will take place on Saturday while the 105kg and opens will be held on Sunday. Events include the car-carry, atlas stones and the monster log which are sure to have the audience gasping in amazement.

Also new for this year is the Reel Stunts in Action event which will show how real life stunts are devised and executed including the art of high fall.

Returning to Rotherham Show this year will be the K9 Freestyle Dog Dancing Display which consists of professionally trained dogs exciting crowds with dance routines coupled with music.

Show favourites such as the Rother FM Motor Village and fun fair, along with the vintage vehicle rally and horticultural show, also return for the weekend.

Councillor Maggi Clark, the Mayor of Rotherham, said: “The annual Rotherham Show is a great opportunity for all communities to come together to celebrate all that is best about Rotherham and I am looking forward to meeting as many people as possible over the weekend.”
