Natalie paints a reindeer for Bluebell Wood Christmas card

A REINDEER rooftop painting by a Bluebell Wood sibling has been made into a Christmas card to raise money for the children’s hospice.

Natalie Dundon, from Kimberworth Park, came up with the festive design during a workshop with artist Joe Scarborough.

She attends the sibling support group as Bluebell Wood looks after younger sister Sally, who has complex medical conditions and needs ventilator support and round-the-clock care.

Natalie (11) said: “Creating the card was lots of fun. Joe explained everything so well and I really concentrated on making my picture stand out.

“It’s amazing to know my card will be seen by so many people. I am really pleased.”

Natalie’s is one of five designs the North Anston charity has on sale this Christmas. Fellow sibling group member Jordan Hawkes, from Sheffield, came up with a snowman design.

The group is a chance for youngsters to have fun with other siblings experiencing similar situations.

Co-ordinator Laura Beckett said: “The art session was a great way for them to get involved with something creative at Bluebell Wood. They feel proud to see their work on our Christmas cards.

“Often brothers and sisters of children who visit us have had to adjust to many things and ‘grow up’ through the diagnosis of their sibling.

“Our support group lets them have fun times while also talking through anything they are being faced with.”

The other cards feature a wintry Ecclesall Wood scene by Sheffield artist Margaret Ellis; a nativity by Alison Askew-Maroney in memory of nephew Alexander Strong and photos of Bluebell Wood children and mascot dog George.

Bluebell Wood chief executive Claire Rintoul said: “The cards have a real personal touch to them because of the stories they tell.”

Each pack of ten costs £4 and can be bought online at bluebellwood.org, from the charity’s shops or by calling 01909 517365.
