MP wants action on children’s care services

SIR Kevin Barron will write to health and council officials in Rotherham to ask what action they are taking to integrate children’s palliative care services.

He attended a Westminster event organised by Together For Short Lives to highlight the services available to support youngsters with life-limiting conditions.

The Rother Valley MP chatted to parent carer Anna Gill and other representatives from the charity last Tuesday (17) during Children’s Hospice Week.

Sir Kevin said: “Providers of children’s palliative care offer a vital lifeline to families. Yet commissioning of services, particularly from the voluntary sector, is patchy and inconsistent.

“Well-commissioned and co-ordinated palliative care helps families to make the most of their time together.

“It’s essential that health and social care services work together to ensure that services are joined up and funded fairly and sustainably by the NHS and local authorities to ensure that the excellent care they provide can continue.”
