Minster service in wake of Rotherham child abuse scandal

A TARGETED prayer event is being held tomorrow to encourage worshippers to pray for those in the firing line following the Rotherham child sex abuse scandal.

Last September almost 600 people crammed into Rotherham Minster to pray for the future of the town and the lives and families that have been “ripped apart” through CSE.

And tomorrow night from 7pm, church group Liberty Rotherham is holding  another “strategic united prayer response” at the Minster under the banner Rotherham Forward not Backward.

Group spokesman Adrian Dexter said: “In the light of recent developments in Rotherham, that have received national media coverage, church leaders are organising a large gathering at Rotherham Minster to pray strategically into key areas and roles within our community.

“We are planning to invite key civic and community leaders and pray in sections for each area, including the new commissioners, the Police Crime Commissioner, MPs, the police, the Mayor and councillors, teachers, social workers, community group leaders, voluntary sector workers and most importantly the victims and survivors of CSE.”

Deputy Mayor Maggi Clark, the Bishop of Sheffield, Steven Croft and representatives of several church groups are all expected to attend.
