Masked raiders rob terrified couple

Masked robbers tied up an elderly couple and stole cash and jewellery in an early morning raid on a house near Nether Haugh.

Two men, one armed with a weapon, burst into the home of a couple in their 70s as they lay asleep in bed shouting threats and demanding money.

The burglary happened around 1am on Thursday at the property off the B6089.

Both husband and wife were tied-up while the raiders ransacked the property.

The men fled taking with them a quantity of cash and jewellery, including a five-stoned diamond engagement ring.

Det Sgt Nikki Shimwell said: “This has been an incredibly terrifying ordeal for this couple and both have been left very distressed by this incident, feeling helpless and vulnerable.

“The burglars are described as two white men with a tall, thin build and spoke with Yorkshire accents.

“If anyone knows who is responsible for this, please contact the police immediately.”
