Anna Rudkin, president of the Sheffield & District Law Society said

the society could not offer legal advice, but could assist with tracing important documents including wills and property title deeds

She said: “The closure of the firm is likely to come as a shock to many who have used it as their family solicitor and many are likely to be worried about what has happened to important documents such as wills and property title deeds.

“We can also provide assistance in helping to find local law firms based in Barnsley that offer specialise in certain areas of the law, as well as ensuring that missing or lost documents can be returned to their rightful owners.

“This can be particularly important when a firm closes or merges and the name disappears from the High Street.

“In addition to offering support to members of the public, we are working with former employees of Atteys, allowing them to continue to keep their training up-to-date, as well as helping them to find alternative employment in the local area.”
