Lasting memorial to Rotherham's Victoria Cross heroes

THE mother of Falklands hero Sgt Ian McKay was among the crowds at the dedication of a new memorial to three of Rotherham's bravest sons today.

Mrs Freda McKay attended the service at the new fountain pool in Clifton Park's Memorial Garden.

The names of Rotherham's three holders of the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest gallantry award, have been engraved in the coping stones of the fountain.

The name of Sgt McKay, who was killed in the Falklands War in 1982, appears alongside those of First World war heroes Thomas Norman Jackson, of Swinton; George William Chafer, of Bramley
