Kids facing 12-month wait for Rotherham foster places

NEARLY half of looked-after children waiting to be fostered face more than a year’s wait because of a shortage of willing parents.

Rotherham Borough Council’s latest figures — covering July to September — show only 54 per cent of youngsters were placed within 12 months.

The overall figure for 2011/12 was 50 per cent and the children’s services department is well below this year’s 74 per cent target.

A council report admitted: “Performance is poor with fewer children adopted overall compared to this time last year.

“Additional resource and improved case management have been identified to improve

performance.”
