JUBILEE: Sandra shows off her royal collection of commemorative mugs

PROUD royalist Sandra Howcroft has amassed a fitting collection of mementos from the Queen’s many milestones.

The 75-year-old, who is looking forward to celebrating the monarch’s 70-year reign this weekend, has commemorative mugs for the coronation and the silver, golden, diamond and now platinum jubilees on show at her Clifton flat.

She revealed the first dates back to her early school days, when each child at Herringthorpe Junior & Infant School received a mug as a keepsake of Elizabeth’s coronation.

It’s not exactly been kept in mint condition, as Sandra admitted: “My mum used to keep her false teeth in it.”

The coronation mug is slightly chipped but its four successors — the latest bought for Sandra by her sister Ann Ball — are as good as new.

The family also has another heirloom linked to the Queen, as Sandra explained: “My mum won the raffle for the coronation at school and the first prize was a cut glass rose bowl, which is still in the family.”

Sandra said she and her neighbours at Beechwood Lodge would be celebrating with a garden party next Saturday.

“We are all doing our bit, and I have a big flag and a large picture of the Queen to display,” she added.

“I have always been a royalist.

“Nothing like this Queen’s reign will ever happen again.”
