John Healey MP defends expenses claims

WENTWORTH and Dearne MP John Healey has defended the fact that he claimed the the highest expenses of any Yorkshire MP last year.

Newly-published figures showed that Mr Healey claimed £68,432 but he said in a statement that the figure reflected the cost of running a busy constituency office, open to the public full time so that people can get hold of him.

He also said making changes to the office so that he could take on an apprentice had incurred a one-off cost.
