James Bond recruited for drink-drive campaign: WATCH

A JAMES Bond-themed Youtube video is at the centre of a winter drink driving campaign slamming home the message that drunken motorists do not have a licence to kill.

The Casino Royale-style internet ad from South Yorkshire Police is the first step in the force’s Shaken and Slurred campaign which aims to drive home the fact that getting behind the wheel while drunk means gambling with people’s lives.

It has been launched at the start of the month-long campaign which will also see officers heading onto the borough’s streets to carry out thousands of on-the-spot breathalyser tests.

Chief Inspector for Roads Policing, Stuart Walne, said: “We hope that our high profile awareness raising will help remind drivers that drinking and driving wrecks lives and will not be tolerated.”

A SYP spokesman revealed that 9,700 reported casualties on UK roads in 2010—five per cent of all road casualties—occurred when someone was driving while over the legal alcohol limit.

Chief Inspector Walne added: “If you know someone that regularly drives whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol I would urge you to contact South Yorkshire Police by telephoning 101.”
