Inspirational Jason pens third book

A REFORMED drug and alcohol addict who suffered mental health problems and family turmoil before putting his life into words has penned his third book.

Jason Tune, who now works as a mental health support worker, wrote Recovery/Discovery with colleague Tina Morgan about his recovery and transformation.

The book is based on his experiences, including the three years he spent in a psychiatric hospital, and his work in the Rotherham Early Intervention Service, which is run by Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber (RDaSH) NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Tune (51), said: “I think my own recovery has been too powerful to keep to myself and I wanted to share it.

People used to walk on the wrong side of the road and avoid me but I turned my life around.

“It has been a liberation for me to write these books and I hope they will inspire others. If they help just one person then it is worth it.”

The book looks at Mr Tune’s recovery from a psychological, spiritual and philosophical point of view.

It also includes details of his time spent in a psychiatric hospital.

Mr Tune said: “I have never given in to regain my identity. I knew I had a good background and a good education and then I started looking at my personal responsibility.

“I feel as though I have got some control now but the book isn’t just aimed at those who are going through mental health problems.

“We are all in some sort of recovery — ranging from debt to divorce — it could be anything and I hope that I can inspire people to recover.”

Mr Tune’s job now involves supporting those going through similar problems to what he had and is based at Swallownest Court.

His colleague Miss Morgan has written two chapters about her problems with anxiety in the book.

Mr Tune said: “I just think that mental health should be treated the same as physical health.

“I still feel there is a stigma attached to mental health and there is still a long way to go to but I think it comes from a lack of education.

“I want to send out a positive message that people can recover and can live a fulfilled life.

“I have travelled around the world, I have passed my driving test and I live independently.

Mr Tune said he now hoped to make a documentary about his life “to give something back” to those who had helped him.

Recovery/Discovery is available on Amazon priced at £10 and from Chipmunka Publishing.
