Impaled cat rescued

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a cat which was found impaled on a metal fence.

A crew from Rotherham station used cutting equipment to free the moggy, called Jack,, which had a spike through its leg.

Jack was found by his owner yesterday lunchtime near the family’s Swinton home, after going missing for two days.

Firefighters took the injured animal to the vet with part of the spike still attached to its leg.

Jack underwent surgery at Wath’s Arncliffe Veterinary Surgery and was said to be recovering well this morning.

Rotherham station watch manager Gary Willoughby said: “Luckily, the spike had only pierced the skin so the cat's muscles and vital organs were still intact.

“The owners had been out looking for him since Saturday and after hearing a meowing they found the cat on the fence.”
