Human trafficking awareness campaign receives Rotherham boost

THE retired president of a women’s group has handed over a big cheque to a campaign which raises awareness of human trafficking.

Chris Low, who has just stepped down as president of Soroptimists International of Sheffield, which covers Rotherham, handed over a cheque for just under £4,000 to Stop the Traffik to mark the end of her year in office.

Mrs Low, a retired vicar, gave the cheque to Ruth Dearnley, the campaign’s chief executive, at a ceremony on Tuesday (23) in Tapton Hall, Sheffield, where the Soroptimists group meets.

Mrs Low said that she had enjoyed her year as president and was pleased that the Soroptimists have been able to support the Stop The Traffik campaign as well as helping a women’s counselling group in Rotherham.

She said: “It has been a challenging year because I am relatively new to the area, though not to the Soroptimists.

“But people from the club have been very helpful.”

Mrs Low said that she will continue to be a part of the Soroptimists and will keep busy with other activities as well, such as a Christian healing organisation.

She said: “Once you are ordained you never really retire.”
