Hospice’s plea for helpers

ROTHERHAM Hospice has appealed for more volunteers to help at its growing calendar of events.

The charity has 370 helpers in areas like patient care, driving, admin and its shops.

But the fundraising team is looking for extra assistance at events, as well as charity collections and bag-packing.

Team leader Anne Giblin said: “We are a small team here at the hospice and we rely heavily on the support of volunteers to help us.

“Events such as the popular Midnight Memory Walk need a lot of volunteers to help with registration and marshalling the route.

“We really could not put these events on without the support of volunteers. There are lots more ways of getting involved in fundraising, and we hope people will come along to our information sessions to find out more.”

Volunteers are also sought to set up fundraising action groups across the borough, encouraging others to support the charity and spreading its the good news.

The hospice is also appealing for good quality items to fill the stalls at its annual summer gala, at the Phoenix Sports Ground in Brinsworth from noon on June 7.

Handbags, jewellery, toiletries, gifts, crafts, toys, jigsaws and bric-a-brac can be dropped off at the hospice on Broom Road, or any of the hospice shops.

It also includes the It’s a Knockout Challenge and a children’s football tournament. Call 01709 308920 for more information.
