HAVE YOUR SAY: Town’s £20 million debt shock

THOUSANDS of Rotherham families are shelling out a “shocking” £20 million every year in repayments and interest to pay-day loans companies and expensive credit services, the town’s biggest credit union warned this week.

The estimated £20.8 million sum — amounting to £1,300 each for around 16,000 families — was described by LASER Credit Union’s chairman Alan Teale as “a credit crisis” and a huge drain on the town’s economy.
