Have you signed up for Rotherham Roundwalk?

Party-loving folk are being offered the perfect way to get over any royal wedding hangover—tackling the Rotherham Roundwalk.

This year, the town’s most gruelling mass fund-raising event takes place on Sunday, May 1—two days after the royal wedding.

The Roundwalk, which is organised by Rotherham Rotary Club, invites walkers to take part in the competitive 25-mile Challenge walk or the 12-mile Family Ramble, both of which set off from All Saints' Square in the town centre at 9am.

In the past, the event has raised more than £83,000 for charities and organisers are after volunteers to help boost that total.

John Wadsworth from the Rotary Club said that the walk was the ideal antidote for those who expected to spend all Friday in front of the TV watching the royal wedding or at a street party.

He said: “This is an opportunity to get out all day in the fresh air and enjoy the countryside.

“With no Rotherham Walking Festival this year, this will be a unique opportunity to join a large group of walkers from Rotherham and further afield to appreciate the wealth of scenery round Rotherham and the pleasures of rambling.

“Please enter if you can even if you are not a regular walker.”

All finishers will receive a certificate for their efforts in completing the walk, which covers a circuit through Wickersley, Whiston and Treeton on easy paths or roads.

Full details are on the Rotary Club website: www.rotherhamrotary.org.uk.

All walkers over 12 will be asked for a donation with all proceeds going to the walk charities—Rotherham Hospice, Shiloh, Rotherham Samaritans, Rotherham Young Carers, the Purple Butterfly Appeal and St. John Ambulance who provide first aid cover.
