THE man charged with the murder of Dr Colin Shawcross told police that he would have liked to punch the retired GP’s lights out but that somebody had beat him to it.

The evidence came out today, day five of the murder trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Andrew Hill (49), denies murdering Dr Shawcross who was having an affair with his wife, Julie Hill.

The court heard today that during police interviews, before Dr Shawcross’ body was found, Hill told officers that he would have “liked to have got hold of him and knock seven bells out of him.”

On another occasion, Hill told police that he would have liked to “punch his lights out” but somebody beat him to it.

Hill is expected to give evidence today.

The trial continues.
