German guests at Wentworth Woodhouse

A GROUP of German guests enjoyed a tour of Wentworth Woodhouse as part of a church link-up with their home town.

They also attended a service at Wentworth Church and visited homeless charity Shiloh during their time in Rotherham.

The Diocese of Sheffield’s link with the church district of Hattingen-Witten in Germany’s industrial Ruhr region dates back to 1987.

Link group secretary Jayne Spaven said: “It’s about partnership, reconciliation, and friendship.

“Through our mutual visits, we deepen our understanding of Christian discipleship and gain fresh insights on what it means to be church in our own situation.

“This year’s visit started with a welcome service at Holy Trinity Thorpe Hesley, followed by a meal in the Trinity Centre where guests and their hosts got to know each other.

“Monday’s (13) activities included a tour of Wentworth Woodhouse and the village, lunch provided by the Village Store in Wentworth before a presentation at Shiloh about how churches in Rotherham work together to help disadvantaged and vulnerable people.”
