Gender pay gap "not closing quick enough"

PROGRESS in closing the gender pay gap is not moving fast enough, Rotherham MP Sarah Champion has said.

New figures from the Office of National Statistics show men being paid an average of 18.1 per cent more, down from 19.3 per cent last year.

Ms Champion said: “While this fall is welcome, progress to combat the gender pay gap is still not moving quickly enough.

“We are still above the EU average and the underlying causes of the gap remain. Women are stuck in low paid, part-time work and remain overwhelmingly responsible for childcare.”
