FIREFIGHTERS from Maltby Station were called to a house on Oak Tree Close in Wickersley after the owner returned home to smell gas.
The occupant had gone out without realising that the gas hob was not fully turned-off and immediately called 999 and opened all the windows when they got home.
Firefighters received the call at 8pm last night and spent around one hour helping to ventilate the property.
A spokesman for Maltby Fire Station said: “The caller did the right thing contacting us and ventilating the house.”
