Gallow Tree family's Hallowe'en horror house

Hammer horror has nothing on the ghoulish exploits of Glenn Charlton and his family’s annual efforts to transform their home into a Hallowe’en showstopper for charity.

Giant mummies, piles of skulls, gravestones and a life size corpse hanging from a lamppost are all part of the spooky scene that will greet visitors to Gallow Tree Road, Brecks, on Sunday night.

Ten years of terror have followed the initial efforts of Glenn (52) his son Dean (22) and daughter Lauren (19) to transform their home into a a macabre Mecca for trick or treaters on All Hallows’ Eve.

The creative trio have designed and created hundreds of props to complete the transformation and are now urging ghoulish guests to pay them a visit to raise money for Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital.

Glenn said: “Not many people have shown the enthusiasm for Hallowe’en over the years that my two kids have and it’s been something that we’ve had fun with.

“It’s got to the point where our house and garden looks like a set from a horror movie come Hallowe’en and crowds of people come to see it.

“People turn up in fancy dress and hang around all night.

“We never designed it to become a tourist attraction, but it’s at the point where we have an impromptu Hallowe’en party every year.”

This year’s effort aims to raise funds to help the Weston Park Hospital support cancer sufferers like the Charltons’ family friend Alex Albiston who lost his fight against cancer earlier this year aged 18.
