Gala boosts Scout and Guides funds after leak forces them out

AN ONLINE appeal page has been set up to help a Scout and Guide group get back to its HQ after the roof sprang a leak.

The 14th Rotherham Scouts and 9th Rotherham Guides, who held their annual summer gala last weekend, are currently meeting in the church hall next to their Main Street base after the hole in the roof forced them to move out.

The gala has helped them start finding the money for repairs, but they are appealing for donations via the Justgiving website.

Scout group leader Pam Massingham, said St Francis’ Church hall was providing a temporary refuge following the recent downpours, which have left the building unsafe for the 170 young members of the Scout and Guide groups.

“We’ve had no major disaster like this before,” said Pam.

“We help change lives by offering six to 14-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others.”

Pam and her colleagues had already raised £2,000 for the roof before by packing bags and hosting car boot sales and believed the problem was solved  until last week.

“The church have been fantastic,” she said.

“They’ve made sure weve got somewhere to meet, and offered to help in any way they can.”
