Funding boost hope for Rotherham Rise charity

A CHARITY which provides support and refuge for women and children affected by domestic and sexual abuse is hoping to get a boost for its new home after reaching the final of a nationwide competition.

Rotherham Rise has seen off competition from 1,800 projects to be in the running to win a share of £250,000 in the Jewson Building Better Communities competition.

The charity is now hoping to come out on top in a public vote after winning funding from Johnstone’s Trade to kit out its Main Street base earlier this year.

David Fenton, marketing director at Jewson, said: “Supporting the communities where we live and work is so important to us, and hearing the heart-warming tales of some of last year’s projects motivated us to do even more to help boost community spirit up and down the UK.

“By more than doubling the prize fund to a £250,000, we’re giving people the chance to transform the community projects and initiatives that are close to their hearts. Now people have the opportunity to vote online via Facebook for their favourite causes, and make a difference to local communities.”
