Fountain flasher could strike again warns Heather

A HORRIFIED woman who was flashed at by a man in Rotherham town centre is scared that he could strike again after CCTV cameras failed to capture evidence of the incident.

Heather Kealey said that she was walking through All Saints’ Square at around 6.20pm last Saturday when the man unzipped his trousers and walked towards her while exposing himself.

The office worker was walking home from Tesco alone when the man exposed himself and began “parading” around the square’s fountain.

Heather now fears that the man could strike again.

She said: “I was just passing the fountain when I noticed that this man had his private parts hanging out of his jeans and he was staring at me.

“He paraded around the fountain like he was doing something to be proud of.

“As he walked past me our paths crossed. I was really scared.”

She added: “It’s not nice to think that someone would do that in such a busy part of the town at a time when young people could be around.”

Heather described the man—who walked off in the direction of Tesco following the incident—as being aged over 30 with silver or blonde hair.

He was wearing a jacket and jeans with a rucksack.

Heather claims that she has contacted the police three times since her ordeal to see if they have managed to trace the man who exposed himself.

She was told that the town centre’s CCTV system had been pointing in the wrong direction to capture evidence of the incident and patrols of the area failed to snare the culprit.

Heather says that she has had trouble sleeping since the ordeal, adding: “When I asked the police operator why someone would flash me they said: ‘Men like this often flash on more than one occasion and they can go on to commit more serious offences.’

“It’s awful to think he could target someone else.”

A police spokesman said: “A call came in at about 6.20pm from a woman who claimed a man had just exposed himself to her in All Saints’ Square.

“Officers were deployed to the location given by the victim and they made a search of the area. They did not find anyone acting suspiciously, or matching the suspect’s description.

“CCTV did not capture the incident, but shows a number of people in the area at this time who may have seen what happened.

“This would appear to be an isolated incident and reports of this nature are very rare for the town centre.”
