Flypast and parade in Rotherham to applaud the Armed Forces

ROTHERHAM is set to honour the Armed Forces with a special parade — and a flypast — on Saturday.

The Armed Forces Day parade will be led by the Barnsley Sea Cadet Band and will set off from Rotherham Town Hall at 11.25am.

The parade will then move down Moorgate Street, proceed right down High Street, turn left along College Street, then right down Effingham Street to Effingham Island, left along Frederick Street and then left again up Bridgegate and into All Saints’ Square.

When they reach the Square, the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Maggi Clark (pictured), and Cdr Charles Bagot-Jewitt, will both be delivering speeches to welcome the personnel and thank them for bringing honour to the town.

The day’s events, which start at 10am and concludes at 4pm, will be accompanied with a fly-past by a Hurricane aircraft over the town centre at approximately 1.15pm (weather permitting) and a range of stalls, including Armed Forces recruitment and merchandise, plus entertainment throughout the day including face painting and the amazing Mr Alexander and his Travelling Show.

The Mayor said: “This will be the fifth Armed Forces Parade the town centre has hosted and it is without doubt one of the highlights of the year.

“The day shows Rotherham as a united force, coming out as one to help support the brave men and women who are giving their all with pride and dignity.

“It’s great to see the town centre filled with families enjoying the celebrations and the day has really shown Rotherham at its best for the past five years.

“It celebrates the Armed Forces, the sacrifices they have made and the service they do for the country.

“I’ve no doubt that this will be another fantastic event."
