TOWN centre shoppers will get a pre-Christmas boost next week as the menswear retailer Greenwoods opens its doors, just in time for the festive season.

Greenwoods, which has currently 85 shops nationwide, is returning to Rotherham after a break of over seven years since its previous store on High Street closed.

The menswear specialist will offer its full range of services from a new 'flagship' store on College Street in the former Music Zone unit.

The move makes Greenwoods the third retailer to move into the area after Discount UK and Internacionale recently opened their new stores.

Neil Roberts, Greenwoods' chief operating officer, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be returning to Rotherham after over seven years of absence and hope that we will have a long and prosperous relationship with the city for many years to come.  We have had great support from Rotherham Borough Council and I am sure that we will continue to sustain the support in this joint investment in Rotherham."

The move into the store has been helped by an £8,000 grant from the Council's Town Centre Business Vitality Grant Scheme. The grant has enabled the creation of improved access to the unit's storage meaning Greenwoods can offer a wide range of stock and offer a unique service in terms of 'instant suit hire' under its 1860 suit Hire brand.

Councillor Gerald Smith, Cabinet Member for Economic Prosperity and Town Centres, said: "It is great to see a national retailer like Greenwoods returning to the town centre and helping to expand the range of products and services on offer to shoppers.

"The Council and its partners are working hard to encourage retailers into the town centre through innovative initiatives like the Business Vitality Grant Scheme and it is nice to see that bearing fruit with the transformation of another store."

Greenwoods will officially open at 10am on Wednesday, December 14, with the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Shaun Wright, joining in the festivities.

The new store will offer a full range of menswear, its 1860 Suit Hire and Mansize range of larger size clothing. Greenwoods will also become the latest business to sign up to the successful Shop Local Scheme, offering 10% discount for cardholders, excluding suit hire or half price sale items.
