First glimpse of £2m Rotherham mortuary

AN ARTIST impression has been released to show how Rotherham General Hospital’s £2 million modern mortuary will look.

Work began this week on the bereavement centre, which has been designed to be safe and convenient for grieving relatives and friends.

It will have a dedicated entrance and be more private for visitors, with dedicated funeral director and ambulance space.

Chief of Rotherham Hospital Matthew Lowry said: “We are committed to ensuring that people and their families are treated with respect and dignity in death.“

This will offer purpose-built, modern facilities in a sensitive environment that considers the needs of bereaved relatives, visitors and staff.”

The redevelopment, being mostly funded by Rotherham Borough Council, is part of the hospital’s Healthcare of Tomorrow programme.
