A PIONEERING power company has vowed to create up to 600 new jobs in Rotherham after announcing long-term plans to produce new eco-friendly air-cooling units in the borough.

Bosses from technology firm FireChill have confirmed that they are launching two new, energy-efficient, air-cooling products which could provide savings of between 15 and 60 per cent compared with traditional air-conditioning and cooling units.

The company said that the move would allow one Rotherham manufacturing firm, which they have not named, to expand and create up to 600 jobs.

FireChill has a global licence to manufacturer and market a specific type of cooling product and bosses said they were ready to begin manufacturing next year if they can secure funding of up to £3.3 million.

FireChill is a joint venture between Leeds-based Phase 37 and Cooling Technologies Inc, an Ohio-based company which specialises in the development of energy-efficient chiller and flexible heating and control solutions.

Simon Clothier, chief executive of Phase 37, said: “Green technologies will drive the UK economy over the next decade and have the potential for explosive growth as the world looks to new solutions for old problems.

“Our product sits right at the heart of this agenda due to its ability to keep buildings cooler as the world warms and make significant energy and carbon savings over traditional technology.

“With more than 40 demonstration units installed and operating, we have generated a substantial level of global interest, especially in hot, crowded, gas-rich areas of the world.

“We can’t wait to start manufacturing and are confident that with further investment, we can maximise the global market potential these products offer.”

About £4 million has already been invested in the need development, testing, production readiness and due diligence needed to bring the technology to the point of mass-marketing and manufacture.
