Firm counts cost of £100,000 raids

DESPERATE van hire boss John Bailey says a series of raids on his premises have cost more than £100,000 over the last year.

Thieves have struck four times in the last month at Buzz Van Hire, in Rawmarsh, targeting batteries, puncturing fuel tanks to steal diesel and removing £1,000 catalytic converters to sell for scrap.

Now Mr Bailey says he is thinking of moving out his premises in Rawmarsh Hill.

The raids are the latest in a series of raids over the last 12 months, including one in which two lorries were set ablaze.

“They are coming every week, cutting a hole in the fence and damaging and stealing from the vans.

“Whoever is doing these break-ins, they know what they are looking for and what they’re doing,” said Mr Bailey.
