Firefighters shine at international conference

SOUTH Yorkshire Fire and Rescue shone at an international business conference, where one planner spoke of their success to more than 1,000 delegates.

Russ Parramore talked about the authority’s world-beating emergency management skills at the Business Continuity Institute’s World Conference and Exhibition, held in London.

He talked about a 2013 exercise, taking a whole day and involving 150 staff, which tested the service’s ability to carry on working during a disaster.

The exercise won praise from partners and observers — its results were circulated to other public bodies so they could benefit from the experience.

Russ said: “It’s a real coup for the work we’ve done in South Yorkshire to be recognised on an international stage such as this.

“The leadership shown and support given by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has enabled business continuity to move from something which must be done, to something which is understood and embraced throughout the whole organisation.”
