Farmhouse conversion plans rejected

CONTROVERSIAL plans to convert an 18th century farmhouse into flats have been dismissed by the Planning Inspectorate.

Developer Mirbaz Khan wanted to extend a property in Brook Road, East Dene, and raise the roof to add apartments.

His application—for eight flats and six parking spaces—was turned down by Rotherham Borough Council planners last October, and the Inspectorate has now backed their stance.

Inspector Alison Lea said the proposal would harm the appearance and character of the building.

She added that there was insufficient parking provision and further on-street parking on Brook Road should not be encouraged.
